Deer Creek- Robert E. Schumm, 59, of 107 E. Second St., P.O. Box 202, Deer Creek, passed away at 1: 05 p.m. Friday, January 29, 2010, at his home.
He was born Sept. 23, 1950 in Bloomington, Ill., to Robert and Mary (Kribbs) Schumm. He married Vilma Rosales on Oct. 26, 1995.
He is survived by his wife, Vilma Schumm of Deer Creek; his mother, Mary Schumm of Deer Creek; one daughter, Josephine (and Don) Dodd of Champaign, Ill; three sons, Joseph Padilla of Deer Creek; Joel Padilla of Champaign, Ill; Jared Schumm at home; one brother, David (and Shirley) Schumm of Deer Creek; one granddaughter, Isabella Dodd.
He worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company until enlisting in the U.S. Navy where he served for 14 years on helicopters and straight wing aircraft where he earned his wings. He last served in Desert Storm Operations.
After returning from the U.S. Navy he worked for Advanced Technology Services in Peoria as a computer technologist.
He had been a member of the Deer Creek American Legion.
