Morton - Harriet Wyneken Hahn, 98, of Morton, formerly of Pekin, died at 2:30 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2010, at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton.
She was born Jan. 31, 1912, in Carlinville, Ill., to the Rev. Fred and Frieda (Daib) Wyneken. She married the Rev. Edwin W. Hahn of Mount Pulaski, Ill., on July 11, 1936. He preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 1998. She also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and three sisters.
Surviving are two sons, Richard (Cindy) Hahn of Eustis, Fla., and Warren (Roberta) Hahn of Ormond Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Suzanne Appel of Lacey, Wash., and Sheila (Dr. John) Lovell of Tremont; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She graduated from South Side High School and International College, both in Fort Wayne, Ind. Harriet held a secretarial position in the home office of Lincoln National Life Insurance Co. of Fort Wayne and later at the University of Illinois in Urbana.
She often served as an organist, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teachers at her husband’s churches. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League of the Central Illinois District. She volunteered to read assignments to blind students at the University of Illinois and Concordia Seminary in St. Louis.
Harriet was a great-granddaughter of the Rev. Dr. F.C.D. Wyneken, pioneer missionary, who in 1850 became the president of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod until 1864.
She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Morton.
