Morton - John W. Yancey, 76, of Morton, died at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. He was born Sept. 22, 1933, in Sullivan, Ill., to John and Julia (Locke) Yancey. He married Vera Maltby on Oct. 20, 1954, in Beardstown. Surviving are his wife, Vera Yancey of Morton; two sons, John (Debbie) Yancey, Jr. of East Peoria and Steven Yancey of Ashland, Va.; one daughter, Karen (Stephen) McKillip of Morton; 10 grandchildren, David, Zachary, Jill, Kate, Lucas, John, James, Brian, Isaac, Sophie; and two great-grandchildren, Lydia and Preston; and his sister, Flossie Morris. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. John started his career with Caterpillar Inc. in 1951, retiring as an engineering supervisor in 1995. He was a member of Groveland Missionary Church and a founding member of the Carp Anglers Group. An Army veteran, John was a member of American Legion Post 318 in Morton. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years and was an avid fisherman.
